Music Video Editing Workshop

In todays lesson we had a work shop all about how to edit together all of our footage for once we have filmed our music videos and we have all of our footage. He explained that there would be four stages to our editing process. The performance cut, narrative cut, effects then colour. Applying each one after another to achieve our finished product. In terms of what we learned, we were taught how to sync our footage to our soundtrack and the way that we do this is by using an I pad that shows a time code that is applicable to the time line that is on Premier Pro the software that we are using. So long as the time code on the I-pad and the time code one the software are synced with one another the footage from that shot will be in time with the time code at the beginning of the soundtrack.

He then gave us three rules that we should aim to apply to our music videos. Rule 1, illustrate the music through editing on the screen. For example, try and ensure that what the viewers are seeing correlates with what they are hearing in order to try and achieve the best results possible. Rule 2, group our shots together, this will allow or work flow to be a lot more organised as we will be able to easily depict which shot we would like to see and when. Rule 4, follow the movement meaning that we should try and simply ensure that each set of shots leads on nicely to the next in order to maintain fluidity throughout the music video.
